Author Brenda De Bruin is a children's picture book author/illustrator with a background in art/graphic design studies. "If Henley Had a Honey" is her first book, and the realization of a dream that began when her children were young and delighted in visits to our local library. Because she has always loved miniatures, this project is a blend of two loves for her: miniatures and reading. (Brenda's enjoyment of baking also appears in 2 scenes in the book.) Brenda's hope is that young readers will be inspired to create out of the bits and pieces of the things they find around them, as she did when she built the miniature scenes that make the illustrations.
Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall--Honey and Henley delight in them all!
Whatever the weather, they enjoy it together.
The months of the year bring new things to learn, especially for lovable little Fern.
Watch her explore and hide and play, and make lots of messes along the way!
This delightful children's picture book by debut author/illustrator Brenda De Bruin is an exploration of the seasons of the year with their unique activities, as experienced by two bears--Honey and Henley--and their curious pet rabbit Fern (whom young children will eagerly look for on each page, wondering what sort of trouble she has gotten into now!) The illustrations are photographs of miniature scenes, intended to inspire children to create their own stories out of things they find around them in their daily lives.

Add aroma & beauty to your space! Learn about growing & drying flowers & herbs to make a swag as you join Mahaska County Master Gardener Veronica Grim for this hands-on workshop. It will be held Wednesday, September 24 at 11 am.
Instructions and some herbs and flowers will be supplied, but please bring any of your own you want included. Cost is $5. Registration is required, limited to 15, and due Monday September 22.
All of the herbs and flowers do not have to be dry at the time of making the swag. Suitable specimens include: Sage, Purple basil, Lavender, Bergamot (bee balm), Hyssop, Oregano, Rosemary, Tarragon, Thyme, Sweet Annie, Eucalyptus, straw flowers, gomphrena, cockscomb.
