Oskaloosa City Band Summer Concert Series

The Oskaloosa City Band finishes its Summer Concert Series for 2025.  The band has been performing Summer Concerts every year sine 1864.  The band performs a variety of music each night to please all ages.  

Join the Oskaloosa City Band in the Norman Rockwell setting of the bandstand in the downtown city park!  Local businesses provide free popcorn, lemonade, iced tea, bottled water and more!  Fundraising organizations sell pie by the slice, while ice cream, shaved ice and other treats are available for purchase as well.  Park benches are available but you might want to bring your favorite lawn chair or a blanket to relax under the shade trees while listening to the soothing sounds of the City Band.  We hope to see you there!!

Mahaska County Master Gardeners are celebrating their twenty-second year.  The local program organized in 2003 after the county held their first county training.  The educational volunteer program, sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, provides current, research based, home horticulture information and education to the citizens of Iowa through programs and projects.  Master Gardeners receive horticulture training, and volunteer to promote a mission of education and service.  The program is open to anyone 16 or older with an interest in gardening and a willingness to use their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on their local community.  In 2020 the training went online, and continues as hybrid (online and in person). Mahaska County plans to offer training in Winter 2026.

All classes follow the national guidelines from the American Heart Association. If an American Heart certification card is requested, the cost is $35. If a certification card is not needed, the class is free.

A minimum class size is 10 people. If that number is not met, you will be notified and then have the option to attend the next scheduled class.

NAMI Family Support Group is for any adult with a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. via Zoom and in person at the Optimae Building (209 E. Maple St) in Centerville. All of our support groups are free, peer-led, confidential, and open to any member of our community over the age of 18. We had a successful and a super fun summer art camp this year! Kids transformed into mad scientists, experimented with materials and techniques and made some tryly extraordinary art! On Tuesday, August 26th, 5-7 pm, we will be hosting a closing reception to celebrate all our camper-artists and their work. Please invite friends and family to attend as well! Light refreshments will be provided.
