The dragon is back in town! Well… not really. That’s the story a ragtag band of innkeepers makes up, desperate to draw questing heroes to the struggling Dancing Dragon Inn. Soon the inn is full of unexpected guests, from an army of princesses out to prove their bravery to a group of overwhelmed heroes trying to hold onto their fame. But what happens if they all discover the innkeepers’ dragon story is made up? Could there be more than one way to save the day? An epic folk-rock score brings magic to this funny, heartfelt fantasy musical.

LEAP DAY
(Inspired by the short story “The Days of the Week” by Hans Christian Andersen)
Every Leap Day, the Days of the Week have a day off and celebrate with a huge party
at the House of Father Time.
However, this Leap Day, nothing goes as planned.
The Days feel overworked, demanding an 8th day be added to the week.
Tuesday and Friday’s friendship is not what it used to be.
And Mother Nature makes a surprising appearance which puts everyone on edge!
This 30-minute musical is about valuing yourself for who you are.

Mahaska County Master Gardeners are celebrating their twenty-first year. The local program organized after the county held their first training. The educational volunteer program, sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, provides current, research based, home horticulture information and education to the citizens of Iowa through programs and projects. Master Gardeners receive horticulture training, and volunteer to promote a mission of education and service. The program is open to anyone 18 or older with an interest in gardening and a willingness to use their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on their local community. Online enrollment began January 15 and closes February 12 for this winter’s training.

Public input needed for county wide park planning.
On January 11, 2024, the public is invited to participate in a public input meeting focusing on county-wide park planning from 5:30 -7:30 pm at the Environmental Learning Center which is located at 2342 Hwy 92. Oskaloosa, IA. Landscape Architecture faculty and students from the Iowa State University’s Community Design Lab (CDL) are working with the City of Oskaloosa and Mahaska County to study and assess current park and recreation accommodations in the county and explore the need for future updates to the park system. The CDL team will be on-hand to gather input from residents about their needs and concerns related to parks and trails in Oskaloosa and throughout Mahaska County. The CDL will provide a variety of interactive activities that will allow participants to share their experiences using the park system and suggest improvements that would encourage greater use of the parks and trails going forward.
This is a great opportunity to give input on what you would like to see in the future of the park systems. Please bring family and friends and give a few minutes of your time to help shape the future of our community.
The City of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County Conservation, and CDL have had several meetings leading up to this community engagement and look forward to presenting their findings to the public. We encourage you to attend as both the City of Oskaloosa & Mahaska County Conservation want to better serve the communities!
