Pamyua is Alaska’s most famous Inuit band. Founded in 1995 by brothers Phillip and Stephen Blanchett, the group includes Ossie Kairaiuak and frequent guest member Karina Moeller. Their performances honor and share indigenous Inuit cultural traditions through ceremony and songs passed down through generations. Their unique performances blend traditional Inuit drum/dance melodies with contemporary R&B and soul music, often referred to as “tribal funk” or “Inuit soul.”
Arts Midwest is bringing the folk music of Finland to Oskaloosa as part of Arts Midwest World Fest. Okra Playground will offer workshops in local schools and other community locations during a week-long residency in Oskaloosa.
Pamyua’s visit to Oskaloosa is made possible by a partnership between Arts Midwest, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Iowa Arts Council, and the George Daily Auditorium. The partnership will bring international artists to Oskaloosa through 2025.

Iowa State University and Outreach - Mahaska County is offering a series of family literacy activity nights for parents and children ages 3-6.

The program can help parents prepare their children to succeed in schoool and gain independence while having fun together as a family.

Sessions begin at 5:30pm with the Mahaska Extension Office motto "come as much as you can and miss when you must."
Snacks are provided along with take home activites. Sibling care is available if needed.
Cost is $5 per family for all 5 sessions. Registration and payment are due by January 25, 2023.
