ServSafe® Food Safety Certification Class
Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is offering a food safety training for food service managers on February 3, 2026, at the Mahaska County Extension Office located at 212 N. I Street in Oskaloosa. If inclement weather requires cancellation a snow date of February 10 has been scheduled. Registrations close three weeks before the class on January 13, 2026.
“Certification in ServSafe® meets the Iowa Food Code requirements to have a certified food protection manager in all establishments,” said Cathy Drost, class instructor and ISU Extension and Outreach Health & Human Sciences Educator. "We live in a time when food safety hazards and risks are prevalent. Serving safe food is mandatory. This eight-hour program aims to train food service professionals about food safety requirements and best practices to meet them.”
According to Drost, the program is based on the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe® certification program and the Iowa Food Code. The class is beneficial for foodservice managers from all areas such as schools, restaurants, convenience stores, child care, senior meal sites and health care. Participants will receive a copy of the ServSafe® Manager training manual and will take the ServSafe® certification exam.

The Mahaska County Master Gardeners are hosting presentations to help new and experienced gardeners have more success in their gardens in 2026. The presentation will be held at the Mahaska County Extension Office auditorium, 212 North I Street Oskaloosa.
The events are open to the public; the February 10 session (at 7 pm) is focused for adult participants, the February 24 session (at 5:30 pm) is focused for youth/4-H participants. There is no fee to attend, due to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach - Mahaska County and Mahaska County Master Gardener support.

Enjoy a glass of Tassel Ridge wine ($6–$12) with your favorite individual Wood Fired Oven Pizza ($15). Choose an Apple Bacon Cheddar Pizza; a Beef Taco Pizza with Cheddar, Lettuce, Black Olives, Tortilla Chips, Shredded Mozzarella, and House-Made Salsa; a Margherita Pizza with Fresh Basil and Fresh Mozzarella; a Pepperoni, Black Olive, and Shredded Mozzarella Pizza; or select any four toppings from the Toppings of the Day (Apple, Bacon, Beef Taco Meat, Black Olives, Cheddar, Fresh Basil, Fresh Mozzarella, House-Made Salsa, Lettuce, Pepperoni, Shredded Mozzarella, Tortilla Chips) to Create Your Own Pizza ($17) and pair it with a Caesar Side Salad with Romaine, Croutons, Shaved Parmesan, and Caesar Dressing ($5). 10 Steps for a Successful Vegetable Garden presentations to be held
The Mahaska County Master Gardeners are hosting presentations to help new and experienced gardeners have more success in their gardens in 2026. The presentation will be held at the Mahaska County Extension Office auditorium, 212 North I Street Oskaloosa.
The events are open to the public; the February 10 session (at 7 pm) is focused for adult participants, the February 24 session (at 5:30 pm) is focused for youth/4-H participants. There is no fee to attend, due to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach - Mahaska County and Mahaska County Master Gardener support.
